AARP provides information and resources; engages in legislative, regulatory and legal advocacy.

The Alzheimer's Association provides:

• free and confidential information and referral about Alzheimer's disease and related memory disorders 24 hours a day.
   
• care consultation and care giving strategies to help navigate through the difficult decisions
   
• support groups in many communities throughout South Dakota, facilitated by trained individuals
   
• safety services information including MedicAlert + Safe Return
   
• educational materials and programs for caregivers
   
• professional education and training for care providers also provided.

Day Services for adults who have had a permanent or temporary decline in health status and would benefit from socialization. Day Break provides therapeutic activities, assistance with activities of daily living, dementia care and nursing care services.

These volunteers provide services to frail older adults such as help with chores, repairs and transportation.

This program is set up to protect and locate older adults who may be confused and become lost. Law enforcement agencies are used to rapidly locate and return wandering people who wear a selected tracking device.

Trained, volunteer counselors provide information on topics such as Medicare Beneficiaries on Medicare Part A, Part B, Part C, Prescription Drug Coverage, Long Term Care Insurance.

Services include Adult Protection Services, Ombudsman (nursing care facility resident advocacy), assessment, information and referral, in-home services (homemaker, nursing, medical equipment and supplies, medication management devices, emergency response system, respite). Click here to email for more information.

HELP!Line is a 24 hour community crisis, information and listening/support telephone line. It maintains a comprehensive listing of social service, non-profit, and governmental programs to which referrals can be made.

Senior Companions provide friendship, respite care to family caregivers and assistance with grocery shopping and other light daily tasks necessary to maintain independence. Website

Transportation provided at low cost within Sioux Falls city limits provided to people who meet certain ADA requirements.

Provides low vision services and devices, adjustment to blindness counseling, skills of blindness training and independence living skills training for individuals with vision loss.
