Diagnosis, treatment options, a plan of care and counseling during the same visit
Genetic Testing and Counseling There are many factors that can increase an individual's risk for developing cancer. However, no factor increases the risk more significantly than a cancer susceptibility gene. This is especially true for breast cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer and melanoma. Because of this, Sanford Clinic - OBGYN, Ltd., is offering the Sanford Heredity Cancer clinic for men and women who have strong personal or family histories of certain types of cancer. A genetic counselor, gynecologic oncologist, and other knowledgeable physicians staff the clinic.
Hospice & Palliative Care Program Sanford Palliative Care and Hospice provide continuity of care for individuals and their families who are dealing with a life-limiting illness. Palliative care works with patients during the early stages of the illness, while Hospice works with patients in the latter stages of their illness. Both palliative care and hospice focus on quality of life, with the goal of maintaining the patients best physical and emotional well-being. 90 percent of all Hospice care occurs in the home. However, Sanford's Hospice has two residential hospice cottages for clients with special needs.
