Kohl’s Classroom Connections Project

A health and wellness education program for children 4-18 years old. Provided in school and day care settings throughout Sioux Falls. A partnership program between Sanford Children’s and Kohl’s Cares for Kids.

Child Care Provider Classes

The “Healthy Kids Child Care Curriculum” is a series of 4 classes that help educate child care providers on the importance of promoting movement and healthy eating habits in the children they care for. Each class will give child care providers information and tools to help promote a healthy lifestyle with children in their care. Each class also consists of free posters, games, and activities.

There is no charge for these classes.
Pre-registration is required call (605) 333-0698 to register.

Class Descriptions:

Healthy Kids = Healthy Adults:   This class will focus on the childhood obesity epidemic, the causes of obesity, and what we can do to prevent it. We will also focus on the importance of a physically active lifestyle in children. 

Learning and Movement Go Together:   This class will discuss the relationship between movement and learning from a child's perspective. We will look at how movement enhances brain development and other major developmental milestones.

Turn Off the Screen:   This class will focus on the relationship between increased screen time (television, DVD`s, computer games, video games) and unhealthy lifestyles in children. This class will also focus on how the media influences children.

Healthy Food Choices Matter:   This class will discuss the importance of providing healthy food choices for the children in their care. We will also discuss how to encourage favorable food attitudes and good eating habits in infants and children.
