Day of Surgery

Before arrival

  • Shower or bathe day of or night before to lessen the chance of infection
  • Remove piercing and jewelry (ex: earrings, tongue and /or belly button)
  • Bring along a case if you wear contacts, hearing aids, or glasses
  • Bring along you insurance and/or Medicare information
  • Arrive at your scheduled time

What to expect when you arrive

  • We encourage you to drive up to the Surgical Tower and our valet staff will park your car
  • You will be greeted by a member of your surgical team and walked to your pre-op room
  • Your pre-op surgical team will get you ready for surgery and keep you comfortable
  • If you will be having general anesthesia or medication to relax you, you will meet with the anesthesiologist. He/she will review your medical condition, the medications you are taking, and ask about any reactions that you may have had in the past to medications and/or anesthesia. He/she will also discuss the best type of anesthesia for you and answer any questions you may have.
  • All women of child bearing age, who have not had a hysterectomy, will be asked to give a urine sample to test for pregnancy
  • Occasionally your surgery MAY BE delayed, due to events beyond our control. If there are delays we will keep you informed and comfortable.
